Spaces are available for local girls (7-10 years old) at 1st Effingham Brownies. Mother and daughter Sandra and Carly Hewett have both been involved in this wonderful unit. Carly starts their story:

“I’ve grown up Girlguiding and have incredible memories of my time at 1st Effingham Brownies. I was always learning something. It was fun, welcoming and wasn’t school! I tried other clubs, but it was Guiding which stuck. I did so much – going caving, enjoying a Harry Potter themed pack holiday and discussing issues in a fake parliament. And the more I put in – the more I got out”.

Carly stayed in Girlguiding as a Ranger and Young Leader, before starting university. That’s when mum Sandra became involved with 1st Effingham Brownies.

Sandra says: “I wanted to do some volunteering – I hadn’t been involved with Guiding previously, but knew how much Carly had loved it. I started at 1st Effingham Brownies as a unit leader and have recently completed my leadership certificate. I love working with the Brownies, helping them develop new skills and seeing them grow. Whether we’re litter picking at KGV, playing water games, or planting pots for local elderly people, we’re always doing something!”

Carly added: “I’m very proud of Mum and know that being involved in Brownies will be as wonderful for her, as it was for me”!
