Volunteers from across Leatherhead Division have been spreading the word about Girlguiding at local Village Days and summer fairs.
First up was Ashtead Village Day on Saturday 13th June, when Ashtead Girlguiding had a great time at their Village Day, engaging with the local community, raising awareness, welcoming potential volunteers and fundraising for local units. Local Brownies ran the ever-popular “Poopla” game and a “Hamper Tombola”. Thanks to generous donations from parents, we made around 20 hampers and raised a valuable £1,200 which will directly benefit local girls and support the activities and experience.
We were also delighted to be joined by Girlguiding’s Chief Executive, Felicity Oswald, who was pleased to support local units. She spent all morning at our stand, volunteering her time, speaking with members of the public, and promoting Girlguiding.

Hot on the heels of Ashtead came Bookham Village Day on Saturday 20th June. On our stall, we ran a very successful “teddy tombola”, having collected five bags of toy donations from Rainbows, Brownies and Guides in Bookham and Effingham.

Girlguiding volunteers also provided refreshments in the Barn Hall, including bacon rolls, hot drinks and sandwiches. Three local Guiders and a Unit Helper served around 330 hot and cold drinks, as well as around 235 bacon rolls and 90 sandwiches to those attending Village Day. We raised just over £1,000 for the Bookham Community Association.

Finally, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows joined 1st Fetcham Scout group to open Fetcham Fair on Saturday 4th July with a parade. Girlguiding volunteers also ran a stall at the fair, which involved a water-based game (very appropriate for the warm weather!) called “Leaky Pipe”.
