Brownies and Guides from Fetcham enjoyed learning scooter and skateboarding tricks recently, at Leatherhead Leisure Centre’s skate park.
The back-to-back sessions were organised by a company called Team Rubicon, who run scooter and skate workshops for schools and youth groups.
1st Fetcham Brownies were first up, with a fantastic scooter tricks lesson. Many of the Brownies had ridden scooters previously but hadn’t done any of the tricks which their tutor Mark taught them.
Then it was the turn of 1st Fetcham Guides, with a skateboarding session. Only one of the Guides had ever been on a skateboard before.
Team Rubicon provided all the equipment for the evening, including scooters, skateboards, helmets and other safety gear. Some girls wore their own helmets out of choice.
There was excellent feedback from the Brownies and Guides – they loved having the space to try something new, in an environment where they felt safe and wouldn’t be laughed at, if they fell over.
